Labour ComplianceThe Labour Department, Government of Rajasthan, on April 28, 2026, issued a notification under Section 2(n)(vi) of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 declaring “transport services other than railways for carriage of passengers and goods by road” as a public utility service for a further period of six months.

The State Government stated that the declaration has been made in public interest by exercising powers conferred under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947. As a result, road transport services for carriage of passengers and goods will continue to be treated as a public utility service from the date of publication of the notification for the next six months.

The declaration as a public utility service has implications under the Industrial Disputes Act relating to strikes, lockouts, and dispute resolution mechanisms, requiring compliance with statutory notice and conciliation provisions before industrial action can be undertaken in the concerned sector.
