The Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) recorded a provisional growth of 1.7% in April 2026 compared to April 2025, driven mainly by positive performance in Cement, Steel, and Electricity. The ICI, which represents 40.27% of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), tracks output across eight key sectors.
For the full year April 2025–March 2026, the ICI showed cumulative growth of 2.7%, while the final growth for March 2026 stood at 1.2%.
Sector-wise trends indicate mixed performance:
Growth sectors:
Steel (+6.2%), Cement (+9.4%), Electricity (+4.1%)
Declining sectors:
Coal (-8.7%), Crude Oil (-3.9%), Natural Gas (-4.3%), Refinery Products (-0.5%), Fertilizers (-8.6%)
Cumulatively, Steel and Cement remained strong performers, while most energy-related sectors (Coal, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Refinery Products) showed declines.
