Commercial ComplianceThe Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on May 20, 2026, issued the Draft Central Motor Vehicles (………. Amendment) Rules, 2026, further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

The following has been stated:-

•The Central Government has amended Rule 125-F of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, relating to type approval standards for road ambulances of vehicle categories L and M.

•Road ambulances manufactured on or after April 01, 2018, must comply with AIS 125 (Part 1)-2014 standards, as amended from time to time.

•Category M ambulances of Type B, C, and D manufactured after three months from the final notification must mandatorily carry prescribed emergency and safety/rescue equipment.

•Further, all Pure Electric Road Ambulances (E-Ambulances) manufactured on or after October 01, 2026, must be fitted with additional batteries for powering onboard medical devices as per AIS 125 specifications.

Objections and suggestions to these draft rules may be given within 30 days from May 22, 2026.
