The Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoL&E) on May 20, 2026, issued a notification regarding the release of CPI Data for Agricultural and Rural Labourers for April 2026.
The following has been stated:-
•The Labour Bureau under the Ministry of Labour & Employment released the All-India Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers for Agricultural Labourers (AL) and Rural Labourers (RL) for April 2026 with base year 2019=100.
•The All-India CPI for Agricultural Labourers increased from 136.99 in March 2026 to 137.30 in April 2026, while the Rural Labourers index rose from 136.95 to 137.22.
•The Food Index also recorded an increase, reaching 137.12 for Agricultural Labourers and 136.82 for Rural Labourers during April 2026.
•Year-on-year inflation stood at 3.39% for Agricultural Labourers and 3.11% for Rural Labourers, while food inflation was recorded at 3.81% and 3.42% respectively.
•Among states, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Mizoram reported comparatively higher CPI levels, whereas Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Uttarakhand remained on the lower side.
•The indices are compiled using price data collected from 787 sample villages across 34 States and Union Territories, reflecting rural retail inflation trends across India.
