The National Dental Commission (NDC), on May 18, 2026, issued an advisory to all dental institutions and concerned universities across the country encouraging installation of rooftop solar power plants within college campuses. The initiative has been issued in line with the Government of India’s policy objective of promoting clean and renewable energy and reducing dependence on conventional fuel sources.
The advisory requests institutions to assess available rooftop spaces and electricity consumption patterns, prepare feasibility plans for installation of rooftop solar systems, and explore available government subsidy schemes and net-metering facilities in their respective States and Union Territories. Institutions have also been encouraged to consider phased implementation of rooftop solar projects wherever feasible.
The Commission further stated that institutions implementing rooftop solar initiatives and adopting sustainable energy practices may be considered for suitable recognition or weightage under institutional assessment and ranking parameters, wherever applicable. Dental institutions have been requested to take necessary steps at the earliest to promote clean energy adoption within campuses.
