BIS Amendments Notified to Multiple Indian Standards Across Sectors

Commercial ComplianceThe Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on May 15, 2026, notified amendments to multiple Indian Standards in exercise of powers under Rule 15(1) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018. The amendments have been established with effect from May 14, 2026. 

The notification covers amendments relating to standards on paints and varnishes, petroleum testing methods, safety glass specifications, natural gas compressibility calculations, polymer modified bitumen, and footwear specifications. Key standards amended include IS 101 (Part 1/Sec 5): 2024, IS 1448 [P:26]: 2018, IS 1448 [P:27]: 2018, IS 2553 (Part 1): 2018, IS 15305 (Part 3): 2018/ISO 12213-3:2006, IS 15462: 2019, and IS 17043 (Part 2): 2024. 

The amendments have generally been issued as Amendment No. 1, except for IS 2553 (Part 1): 2018 where Amendment No. 3 has been notified. BIS has specified that the respective standards without the amendments shall remain in force up to November 13, 2026, after which compliance with the amended standards would become applicable.
