The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on May 22, 2026, notified the Cinematograph (Certification) Amendment Rules, 2026, further to amend the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024.
The following has been stated:-
•In the Rules
(a)In rule 33, which is about providing that fees for examination and certification of films shall be charged as prescribed by the Central Government through the e-Cinepramaan portal, sub-rule (2) shall be omitted, and sub-rule (3), (4), and (5) shall be renumbered as sub-rule (2), (3), and (4), respectively.
(c)In rule 37, which specifies the time limit for film certification, requiring the CBFC to complete the certification process within specified timelines after receiving a complete application, the proviso to sub-rule (3) shall be omitted.
They shall come into force on May 22, 2026.
