The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on April 30, 2026, issued circular on RuPay Insurance Program extension - RuPay Platinum and Select Cards.
The RuPay Platinum and Select Cards Insurance Program has been extended for the period from March 31, 2026 to March 30, 2027, with The New India Assurance Company Limited continuing as the insurer. The program provides a group personal accident insurance policy covering accidental death and permanent total disability for eligible RuPay Platinum and Select cardholders. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) remains the policyholder, while the insurer is responsible for underwriting the risk.
Eligibility for coverage requires that the RuPay card must be active and used at least once within 30 days prior to the incident leading to a claim. Valid usage includes financial transactions at POS terminals or e-commerce platforms, including RuPay credit card-linked UPI transactions, while ATM transactions are excluded. Detailed terms, benefits, exclusions, and claim procedures are provided in the annexures of the circular.
Member institutions have key responsibilities under the program, including informing cardholders about policy terms, eligibility, insurer details, and claim procedures at the time of card issuance and upon updates. They must also collect and forward claim documents to the insurer, ensure proper dissemination of the circular, and maintain operational readiness across branches, customer service, and claims teams to effectively manage awareness and claim handling.
Overall, the extension ensures continuity of insurance protection for RuPay premium cardholders, while emphasizing member accountability in communication, awareness, and efficient claim processing.
