The Ministry of Coal, on May 25, 2026, issued a notification regarding the National Lignite Index with Base year 2021-22 & Representative Prices (in Rs/ton) for the Month of April 2026.
The following has been stated:-
•Ministry of Coal has released the National Lignite Index (Base Year 2021-22) and Representative Prices for April 2026 based on certified data from eight lignite sector companies.
•The “All Lignite” index for April 2026 stood at 110.1, while the index for G14/GL4 and above grades was recorded at 152.7.
•Among individual grades, G17/GL7 and below recorded the highest index value at 174.3, whereas G16/GL6 stood at 83.
•Representative prices for April 2026 ranged from Rs. 1,567 per ton for G16/GL6 to Rs. 3,040 per ton for G17/GL7 and below.
