EHS ComplianceThe Delhi Fire Service (DFS), on May 26, 2026, notified the Delhi Fire Service (Amendment) Rules, 2025, introducing significant amendments to the Delhi Fire Service Rules, 2010. The amendments revise key definitions, including “Fire Safety Auditor,” “Fire Safety Certificate,” and “National Building Code of India,” and provide for the empanelment of third-party Fire Safety Auditors for certification and compliance purposes.

The notification restructures the administrative framework of the Delhi Fire Service by redefining Fire Zones, Fire Divisions, and Fire Sub-Divisions across the National Capital Territory of Delhi. It also enables online payment mechanisms for various fees and establishes a dedicated Fire Prevention Wing within the Fire Service Headquarters to oversee fire prevention activities, building plan scrutiny, and enforcement of fire safety measures.

Further, the amendments revise the classification of occupancies likely to cause fire risk, including pandals with seating capacity exceeding 50 persons and residential buildings above specified height and floor thresholds. Most provisions come into force immediately upon publication, while amendments relating to Rules 34–38 and certain schedules will become effective after 90 days, with pending applications continuing to be governed by the provisions applicable on the date of application.
