The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) on May 29, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Revised Inspection Charges for EPF and EDLI Exempted Establishments under Social Security Code, 2020
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Central Government has notified revised inspection charges for establishments exempted from the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme, 1952 and/or the Employees' Deposit-Linked Insurance (EDLI) Scheme, 1976 under Section 143 of the Code on Social Security, 2020.
• The notification supersedes earlier notifications issued in January 1998 and July 1998.
• Establishments exempted from the EPF Scheme, 1952 must pay inspection charges at 0.35% of wages, subject to a minimum monthly charge of ₹8,750.
• The inspection charges for EPF exemptions are payable to the Provident Fund Administration Account.
• Establishments exempted from the EDLI Scheme, 1976 must pay inspection charges at 0.005% of wages, subject to a minimum monthly charge of ₹1,250.
• The inspection charges for EDLI exemptions are payable to the Insurance Fund Administration Account.
• The charges are calculated on the wages in respect of which EPF/EDLI contributions would have been payable if the exemption had not been granted.
• Payment of inspection charges must be made within 15 days of the close of every month.
• This notification is applicable to:
o Employers of establishments that have obtained exemption from the EPF Scheme, 1952, and/or
o Employers of establishments that have obtained exemption from the EDLI Scheme, 1976, under Section 143 of the Code on Social Security, 2020.
• Not applicable to establishments that are covered under the regular EPF and EDLI schemes and have not been granted exemptions.
