The Government of Telangana on June 01, 2026, issued a notification regarding the commencement of the Platform-Based Gig Workers Welfare Act, 2026.
The following has been stated:-
•The Government of Telangana has notified June 02, 2026, as the date on which the Telangana Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2026 comes into force.
•The Act establishes a legal framework for the registration and welfare of gig and platform workers engaged through digital platforms.
•The Act mandates the creation of a welfare board and a dedicated welfare fund to provide social security benefits, including health, accident, and livelihood support.
•It requires platform aggregators to contribute towards worker welfare and maintain records of registered workers.
•The legislation aims to enhance social protection, improve working conditions, and ensure greater economic security for gig workers in Telangana.
