The Government of Assam on May 23, 2026, issued a notification regarding the District Disaster Management Plan: Sonitpur (2026-27).
The following has been stated:-
•The District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP) for Sonitpur (2026-27), drafted by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Assam, serves as a comprehensive, multi-hazard operational handbook that details departmental roles, risk analyses, and standard operating procedures.
•The plan specifically addresses recurring natural disruptions such as floods, erosion, and high-probability Zone V earthquakes, alongside human-induced risks like ethnic conflicts and industrial accidents.
•Management operations are structured sequentially across a four-phase strategy covering structural/non-structural Mitigation, systematic Preparedness, immediate public safety Response, and long-term infrastructure Recovery.
•Under the leadership of the District Commissioner, a dedicated, inter-departmental taskforce network including Early Warning, Search & Rescue, and First Aid teams is mobilized to manage these phases.
•To ensure rapid ground deployment, the district maintains a detailed inventory of logistical assets, such as raised platforms, medical rosters, heavy equipment, and a designated Civil Defence warden setup.
•Furthermore, specific line agencies like the Health and Water Resources departments are mandated to achieve precise mitigation targets, including sustaining medical stock, implementing disease surveillance, and enforcing structural reinforcements like riverbank embankments.
