EHS ComplianceThe Government of Himachal Pradesh on June 02, 2026, issued a notification regarding Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the systematic use of plastic waste in bituminous road construction.

The following has been stated:-

•The Himachal Pradesh Government has notified a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the systematic use of plastic waste in bituminous road construction. 

•Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will collect, clean, segregate, and shred approved flexible plastic waste such as carry bags, sacks, and milk pouches, while rigid and black recycled plastics are prohibited. 

•Joint inspections, digital record-keeping, and coordination among PWD, ULBs, environmental authorities, and pollution control boards have been mandated to ensure transparency and compliance. 

•HPPWD will utilize shredded plastic waste in surface bituminous courses at 8% of bitumen weight as per IRC: SP 98-2020 guidelines. 

•Monthly reporting, environmental monitoring, and training programs will support effective implementation and sustainable plastic waste management.
