The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Meghalaya, on June 01, 2026, issued a notification regarding African Swine Fever (ASF) Control and containment measures.
The following has been stated:-
•Following confirmed cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in several villages, the affected villages have been declared as disease epicentres under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009.
•A 1 km radius around infected premises has been designated as the Infected Zone and a 10 km radius as the Surveillance Zone, with strict restrictions on the movement of pigs, pork products, feed, equipment, and animal waste.
•Slaughter of pigs, sale of pork products, swill feeding, and pig markets are prohibited in infected areas, while enhanced biosecurity, surveillance, disinfection, and carcass disposal measures have been mandated.
•The order also imposes restrictions in surveillance zones and requires monitoring of pig health and wild boar populations.
•Preventive measures have been prescribed for disease-free areas to stop the spread of ASF and ensure continued disease-free status.
