The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on June 05, 2026, issued a direction regarding the Blocking of Piracy and Unauthorized Video Streaming Websites Pursuant to the Delhi High Court Order.
The following has been stated:
• It has issued directions for the blocking of several websites involved in the unauthorized streaming and distribution of copyrighted content, pursuant to an order of the Delhi High Court in Case No. CS(COMM) 492/2026. The order covers multiple websites and domains that were found to be facilitating access to infringing audiovisual content.
• The accompanying advisory highlights the challenges in enforcing website-blocking orders across India's large network of more than 2,700 Internet Service Providers (ISPs). To improve effectiveness, DoT has requested that rights holders trace the location of hosting servers and coordinate with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) where servers are located in India, enabling content to be blocked at the source. Where servers are located outside India, blocking may be implemented through international internet gateways to ensure faster and more effective compliance with court orders.
