The Government of Maharashtra on June 05, 2026, issued a circular regarding general instructions to prevent malpractices in the purchase and sale of petroleum products.
The following has been stated:-
•Due to global geopolitical disruptions impacting the fuel supply chain, the Government of Maharashtra has issued general instructions to prevent malpractices in the sale of petroleum products.
•The circular addresses concerns regarding bulk industrial consumers buying fuel from retail outlets due to lower retail prices, which has significantly increased retail demand and strained local supplies.
•To curb this, the government has authorized a wide range of administrative and police officials to inspect outlets and take legal action against hoarding, black marketing, and unauthorized fuel transfers.
•Commercial entities requiring large volumes are strictly directed to procure fuel directly from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) through bulk supply channels rather than retail pumps.
•Finally, while enforcement agencies are mandated to monitor daily sales and update action logs online, the public is assured that adequate stock is available, and local authorities must guarantee smooth supplies for essential sectors like agriculture, hospitals, and fisheries.
