The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on June 5, 2026, announced the recognition of Sahamati Foundation as the Self-Regulatory Organisation for the Account Aggregator Ecosystem (SRO-AA). The recognition follows the framework issued by RBI on March 12, 2025, which invited applications for establishing an SRO to promote orderly development, governance, and compliance within the Account Aggregator ecosystem.
RBI stated that it received an application from Sahamati Foundation and evaluated it against the requirements prescribed under the Framework for Recognising Self-Regulatory Organisations (SROs) for the Account Aggregator Ecosystem. Based on this assessment, RBI approved Sahamati Foundation as the designated SRO-AA for the sector.
The recognition is expected to strengthen self-regulation, industry standards, operational best practices, stakeholder coordination, and compliance oversight across entities participating in the Account Aggregator framework. Account Aggregators and ecosystem participants may need to align with future codes of conduct, standards, reporting requirements, and guidance issued by the recognised SRO in accordance with the RBI framework.
