The Government of Himachal Pradesh (UD), on May 29, 2026, notified the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Election (2nd Amendment) Rules, 2026. The amendment has been issued under Section 31 of the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1994 in consultation with the State Election Commission and will come into force from the date of publication in the Himachal Pradesh e-Gazette.
The amendment modifies Rule 12(1) of the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 2012 relating to reservation of offices in Municipal Corporations. Specifically, the words “two and half years” have been replaced with “five years”.
Additionally, wherever the word “general” appeared in Rule 12(1), it has been substituted with the term “unreserved”. The amendment thereby revises the tenure and terminology applicable to the reservation framework under the Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 2012.
