Finance & Taxation ComplianceThe Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on June 5, 2026, notified the Foreign Exchange Management (Export of Goods and Services) (First Amendment) Regulations, 2026, amending the Foreign Exchange Management (Export of Goods & Services) Regulations, 2015. The amendment comes into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

The amendment revises Regulation 9, which governs the period within which export proceeds are required to be realized and repatriated to India. Specifically, in sub-regulation (1) and clause (a) of sub-regulation (2), the existing time limit of fifteen months has been reduced to nine months.

As a result, exporters are now required to realize and repatriate the full value of goods or services exported to India within nine months from the relevant date, unless otherwise permitted under FEMA or by the Reserve Bank. Businesses engaged in exports should review their receivables management and foreign exchange compliance processes to ensure adherence to the shortened realization timeline.
