The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on June 05, 2026, issued circular on Submission of statement/return on Centralized Information Management System (CIMS).
The circular informs Authorised Dealer Category–I (AD Category–I) banks about changes in the reporting mechanism for certain returns previously submitted to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Earlier, banks were required to submit monthly statements on Branch Offices (BOs), Liaison Offices (LOs), and Project Offices (POs), as well as NRO account remittances, in physical or prescribed formats to RBI offices.
With effect from June 30, 2026, these statements must now be submitted through the Centralized Information Management System (CIMS) portal. The return for BO/LO/PO reporting has been assigned code R343, while the return for NRO remittance reporting has been assigned code R006. Banks are required to upload these returns monthly on the portal, including a ‘NIL’ report where no data is applicable.
The shift to the CIMS portal aims to streamline and digitize the reporting process, improving efficiency and standardization in regulatory submissions. The Master Direction on reporting under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999 will also be updated to reflect these changes.
These directions are issued under Sections 10(4) and 11(2) of FEMA, 1999, and banks must ensure compliance without prejudice to any other approvals or permissions required under applicable laws.
