The Government of Assam on June 06, 2026, issued an advisory on African Swine Fever (ASF) Control and Containment.
The following has been stated:-
•An official advisory and standard operating procedures were issued by the Government of Assam to control and contain African Swine Fever (ASF).
•Due to a severe outbreak and the emergence of five new epicentres, the state has reinforced a total ban on the inter-district movement of live pigs and prohibited their entry from other states for consumption purposes.
•Intra-district transportation of live pigs and the sale of pork products are permitted in certain districts, provided transactions occur exclusively in designated municipal or panchayat market areas that undergo rigorous daily sanitization.
•Transporters routing breeding stock through or into Assam must obtain written permission from the Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, providing rigorous documentation including recent government-issued health certificates and transit permits.
•Vehicles carrying live pigs must be thoroughly sanitized at interstate borders, are completely prohibited from traveling at night, and face steep fines alongside five-year blacklisting penalties for non-compliance.
•Furthermore, the document mandates strict biosecurity protocols for local farms, routine surveillance, immediate testing at the NERDDL laboratory, and outlines strict disciplinary actions against field staff for any operational negligence.
