Industry Specific ComplianceThe Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on June 10, 2026, issued a notification inviting comments on the draft Amendment Directions on ‘Standardised Approach for Counterparty Credit Risk (SA-CCR)’.

The following has been stated:

• It has released draft amendment directions proposing the implementation of the Standardised Approach for Counterparty Credit Risk (SA-CCR) for commercial banks, replacing the existing Current Exposure Method (CEM) used for calculating counterparty credit risk exposure. 

• The draft framework has been comprehensively revised to reflect developments such as the Bilateral Netting of Qualified Financial Contracts Act, 2020, and the margining regime introduced under the RBI’s 2024 OTC derivatives directions. 

• Key proposals include clarification of CCR treatment across banking and trading books, guidance on multiple margin and netting agreements, treatment of transactions cleared through SEBI-recognised exchanges, handling of deferred option premiums and option notionals, and introduction of disclosure templates for SA-CCR. 

• RBI has invited comments from regulated entities, market participants and other stakeholders on the draft directions until July 01, 2026.
