The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on June 11, 2026, notified regarding the revised Ceiling Prices of BCG, Measles-Rubella and Measles Vaccines.
The following has been stated:
• It has revised the ceiling prices of BCG Vaccine, Measles Rubella Vaccine, and Measles Vaccine following a review by the Department of Pharmaceuticals. The revision was prompted by a representation from Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd., which argued that applying the standard monopoly reduction methodology used for price fixation was inappropriate for vaccines due to their unique manufacturing processes, technology, market dynamics, and public health significance. The Department of Pharmaceuticals directed NPPA to reconsider the matter in line with earlier precedents where monopoly reduction was not applied to BCG Vaccine.
• Accordingly, NPPA has revised the ceiling prices by excluding the monopoly reduction factor and incorporating the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) increase of 0.64956% for 2026. The revised ceiling prices are ₹9.89 per dose for BCG Vaccine (up from ₹8.20), ₹87.93 per vial for Measles Rubella Vaccine (up from ₹72.90), and ₹62.00 per vial for Measles Vaccine (up from ₹51.40). The Authority stated that the revision is necessary in the public interest to ensure the continued availability and viability of these critical vaccines in the market.
• Manufacturers selling these scheduled formulations above the revised ceiling prices must immediately reduce prices to the notified levels (plus applicable GST). They are also required to submit revised price lists, furnish periodic production and sales data to NPPA, and obtain prior approval for any new drug versions. Existing price orders for these vaccines are superseded by this notification.
