The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on June 11, 2026, notified regarding the Grant of 50% Upward Revision in Ceiling Prices of Anti-Tetanus Immunoglobulin Injections.
The following has been stated:
• It has revised the ceiling prices of Anti-Tetanus Immunoglobulin 250 IU Injection and 500 IU Injection. The decision follows a review application filed by Bharat Serums & Vaccines Ltd., the sole domestic manufacturer of the product, which highlighted the financial unviability of production due to rising import-dependent API costs, exchange rate fluctuations, and increasing manufacturing and post-manufacturing expenses.
• The matter was reviewed by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, which referred it back to NPPA for reconsideration in line with earlier precedents involving Anti-Tetanus Immunoglobulin and BCG Vaccine. NPPA also considered recommendations of the Committee on Affordable Medicines and Health Products (CAMHP), which had earlier endorsed upward price revisions for essential medicines facing manufacturing viability issues. After examining substantial increases in raw material and production costs and the critical nature of the medicine, NPPA approved a one-time 50% increase in the ceiling prices to ensure continued availability of the product in the market.
• The Authority clarified that this increase is a comprehensive measure addressing all relevant factors, including market structure and supply conditions, and therefore no separate adjustment relating to monopoly reduction is warranted. Manufacturers shall comply with the revised ceiling prices, issue updated price lists, submit required production and sales data to NPPA, and adhere to DPCO reporting requirements. Earlier price orders relating to these formulations stand superseded by the new notification.
