The Ministry of Finance (MoF) on June 11, 2026, has clarified that customs duty will not be required to be paid on specified goods used for nuclear power generation (tariff item 8401 30 00) imported into India during the period April 01, 2019, to January 31, 2026.
The notification has been issued under Section 28A of the Customs Act, 1962, after the Central Government observed that a general practice of non-levy of customs duty on such imports was prevalent during the specified period. Accordingly, any customs duty that may otherwise have been payable on these imports under the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, read with Notification No. 45/2025-Customs (as amended), shall not be required to be paid.
