The Infrastructure and Investment Department, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh on June 06, 2026, issued the Andhra Pradesh Aviation Policy, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The policy targets increasing the State’s share of India’s passenger air traffic from about 1.5% to 4% by 2035 and 7% by 2047, while expanding annual passenger handling capacity from 6.2 million to over 30 million passengers. It focuses on improving regional connectivity, attracting private investment, and developing a globally competitive aviation ecosystem.
• A major component of the policy is the expansion of airport infrastructure through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models. The State plans to develop nine new airports, including greenfield airports at locations such as Kuppam, Srikakulam, Dagadarthi, and Amaravati, while strengthening existing airports and creating a comprehensive network of regional air connectivity.
• The policy seeks to establish Andhra Pradesh as a hub for aviation-related industries, including aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), aerospace and defence manufacturing, aviation training institutes, air cargo logistics, warehousing, and drone and emerging aviation technologies. Dedicated aviation and aerospace clusters are proposed near major airports to attract domestic and international investors.
• Another key objective is the development of air cargo and logistics infrastructure. The State aims to significantly increase international cargo handling capacity, create multimodal logistics hubs linked with ports, highways, and rail networks, and support exports from sectors such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, agriculture, seafood, and manufacturing.
• The policy also provides a range of investment facilitation measures and incentives, including support for land acquisition, infrastructure development, fiscal incentives for aviation-related projects, and a streamlined approval mechanism.
