Commercial ComplianceThe Government of Maharashtra on June 11, 2026, exempt Stamp Duty for Solar Energy Project Agreements.

The Government of Maharashtra, exercising powers under Section 9(a) of the Maharashtra Stamp Act, 1958, has granted a remission of stamp duty on specified agreements related to solar energy projects. This exemption applies to Development and Sub-Development Agreements, as well as lease and sub-lease agreements executed for solarisation under ultra high pressure and high pressure lift irrigation schemes.

The benefit is strictly limited to agreements directly associated with solar energy projects under the specified scheme. It aims to promote renewable energy adoption and reduce project costs in irrigation infrastructure.

Certain conditions apply to this concession. Beneficiaries availing the exemption cannot claim any additional stamp duty concessions under other policies. Moreover, no refund will be provided for stamp duty already paid prior to the issuance of this notification.

Overall, the notification provides targeted relief to encourage solarisation initiatives while ensuring that the benefit is restricted to eligible agreements and does not overlap with other exemptions.
