The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW) on June 09, 2026, issued the Draft Insecticides (Amendment) Rules, 2026, further to amend the Insecticides Rules, 1971.
The following has been stated:-
•The Insecticides (Amendment) Rules, 2026 revise labeling requirements for insecticides by mandating equal prominence for the common and brand names, with the common name displayed below the brand name and occupying not more than 20% of the label’s front panel.
•The amendment also introduces mandatory safety pictograms, additional labeling provisions, and specifies minimum font sizes for English and Hindi text based on package size, with limited relaxation for ultra-small packs.
•Further, any additional label information requires approval from the Registration Committee.
•Existing labels and leaflets must be updated within six months of the rules coming into force, while the sale, distribution, or stocking of non-compliant products will be prohibited after thirty months from the commencement of the amended rules.
Objections or suggestions may be given within 30 days from June 12, 2026.
