The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on June 12, 2026, issued the Draft Telecommunications (Television, Radio and Associated Services) Rules, 2026.
The following has been stated:-
•The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has released the Draft Telecommunications (Television, Radio and Associated Services) Rules, 2026 under the Telecommunications Act, 2023, replacing multiple broadcasting guidelines with a unified regulatory framework.
•The draft consolidates rules governing satellite TV channels, DTH, HITS, FM radio, community radio, and IPTV services.
•Key reforms include digital authorisation processes, simplified procedures, removal of the Grant of Permission Agreement (GOPA) requirement, and a transparent adjudication mechanism.
•The rules aim to promote ease of doing business and ensure continuity while modernising regulation of the broadcasting sector. Public comments and suggestions have been invited until July 27, 2026.
