The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) on June 09, 2026, notified regarding the extension of ESI Medical Benefits to Families in Lakshadweep Islands from May 1, 2026.
In exercise of powers under the Code on Social Security, 2020 and the Employees’ State Insurance (General) Regulations, 1950, the Director General has notified May 01, 2026 as the effective date for extending medical benefits to the families of insured persons in specified regions of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. This includes the islands of Andrott, Amini, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Chetlat, and Kiltan.
As per Regulation 95-A, the notified extension enables family members of insured persons in these areas to avail medical benefits under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme. This move aims to enhance healthcare access and social security coverage in these remote island regions.
The notification ensures broader inclusion under the ESI framework and strengthens the social welfare infrastructure by providing medical support to families of insured individuals residing in the specified areas.
