Commercial ComplianceThe Bureau of Indian Standards, on June 11, 2026, notified amendments to three Indian Standards under Rule 15(1) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018. The amendments relate to IS 8521 (Part 1):2022 on occupational eye and face protection, IS 16144:2014 on foodgrain storage godowns, and IS 17274 (Part 6):2023 on testing methods for respiratory protective devices. The amendments were established with effect from June 10, 2026.

The notified changes include Amendment No. 1 (June 2026) to each of the three standards. These amendments update the applicable technical requirements and operational provisions concerning occupational safety equipment, storage infrastructure for foodgrains, and testing procedures for respiratory protection systems, thereby enhancing alignment with evolving industry and safety standards.

BIS has provided a transition period during which the standards without these amendments will continue to remain valid. The unamended versions of the standards shall remain in force until December 9, 2026, allowing manufacturers, testing agencies, storage operators, and other stakeholders adequate time to implement the revised requirements.
