The Government of Tamil Nadu on June 5, 2026, amended the Tamil Nadu Brewery Rules, 1983, by introducing an additional fee payable by brewery licensees engaged in the manufacture of beer in the State.
Under the amendment, a new sub-rule has been inserted in Rule 4 providing that, in addition to the existing licence fee, brewery licensees shall pay an additional fee of ₹40 per Standard Case of Beer issued or sold before its removal from the brewery premises. The fee will apply as a condition of the licence granted for the privilege of manufacturing beer.
The amendment also defines a “Standard Case” as a case containing 12 bottles of 650 ml each, 24 bottles of 325 ml each, or 24 cans of 500 ml each.
