The Government of Kerala on June 04, 2026, issued a notification regarding Timely Removal of Inorganic Waste Considering Flood Risk.
The following has been stated:-
•The Kerala Government has directed all local bodies to ensure the timely removal of inorganic waste considering the risk of floods during the monsoon season.
•Local bodies must clear accumulated waste before heavy rains to prevent contamination, deterioration of recyclable materials, public health risks, and additional waste management costs.
•Waste stored at facilities such as Mini MCFs, MCFs, RRFs, and Container MCFs in flood-prone areas should be removed urgently, and preventive measures must be taken to avoid mixing with floodwater.
•Necessary road access and transportation arrangements to waste storage facilities must be ensured without delay.
•Joint Directors must collect and report information on waste storage facilities in flood-prone areas to the District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), and updated details must be submitted for district-level flood preparedness reviews.
