The Government of Tamil Nadu on June 05, 2026, issued the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026, further to amend the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation) Act, 1987.
This shall come into force from November 30, 2025.
The following has been amended, namely:
• It states that in section 33, in the proviso to sub-section (1), the expression “fourteen years and six months”, the expression “fifteen years and six months” shall be substituted. Amendment of section 33.
• The amendment retrospectively validates the appointment and functioning of Special Officers of Market Committees from November 30, 2025. It provides that all persons who were exercising the powers and performing the functions of Special Officers during this period shall be deemed to have been validly appointed under the amended provisions of the Act. Further, any actions, decisions, or proceedings undertaken by these Special Officers between November 30, 2025, and the date of publication of the Amendment Act in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette are deemed to be legally valid and effective, thereby protecting such actions from legal challenges and ensuring continuity in the administration of Market Committees.
