The Labour Department, Govt. of Meghalaya on May 01, 2026, notified regarding the revised Minimum Wages and Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) for 29 Scheduled Employments, effective April 01, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• It has revised the minimum wages and Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) for workers employed in 29 scheduled employments, including agriculture, construction, shops and establishments, hotels and restaurants, factories, domestic work, security services, transport, and mining. Effective April 01, 2026, the revised daily wages are fixed at ₹555 for unskilled workers, ₹598 for semi-skilled workers, ₹640 for skilled workers, and ₹682 for highly skilled workers, inclusive of VDA.
• The notification clarifies the classification of workers based on skill levels and provides that the existing working hours of 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week will continue. Overtime work will be paid at twice the ordinary rate of wages. The revised wage rates include wages for the weekly day of rest and will be reviewed every six months through CPI-linked VDA adjustments.
