The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) on June 18, 2026, issued a circular regarding completion of Data Entry in DIGIT.
The following has been stated:-
•The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued revised instructions for data entry in the DIGIT system following its upgraded launch on April 01, 2026.
•The circular clarifies the categories of offence cases that must be recorded, including outright smuggling, commercial fraud, and cases under laws such as the NDPS Act and Wildlife Protection Act.
•It prescribes specific stages and timelines for recording searches, summons, seizures, arrests, investigations, adjudication, prosecution, and appeals to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
•Minor cases below specified value thresholds are exempt from mandatory entry, except where reward disbursal is involved.
•The instructions also strengthen offender data capture requirements, establish a three-tier nodal officer structure for DIGIT administration, and mandate regular reconciliation between DIGIT and Monthly Performance Reports (MPRs).
•These measures aim to improve data accuracy, uniformity, digital governance, and automated performance reporting across Customs and DRI formations.
