The Ministry of Home Affairs on June 18, 2026 issued the Immigration and Foreigners (Amendment) Order, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The amendment inserts a definition of “Overseas Citizen of India Cardholder” in line with the provisions of the Citizenship Act, 1955.
• It also amends the permit-related provisions under paragraph 14 of the principal Order by clarifying that entry into certain areas may be allowed either after obtaining the necessary permit or without a permit, as applicable.
• Further, the amendment revises the list of protected areas in Rajasthan by redefining the notified areas across the districts of Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Sriganganagar, Barmer, Phalodi, and Jalore, including specific tehsils and regions located along or west of designated national highways.
• The notification also excludes certain city limits, peripheral areas along National Highways 11, 62, and 68, and specified tourist destinations in Jaisalmer district from the protected area restrictions.
• The amendments shall come into force from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
