The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on June 16, 2026, issued the Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks- Prudential Norms on Capital Adequacy) Ninth Amendment Directions, 2026.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Reserve Bank of India has amended the RBI (Commercial Banks – Prudential Norms on Capital Adequacy) Directions, 2025.
• The amendment relates to exposures guaranteed under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) 5.0, as notified by the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company (NCGTC).
• Banks may assign a 0% risk weight to 75% of the guaranteed portion of ECLGS 5.0 exposures, where the guaranteed settlement amount is expected to be received within 30 days from the date of guarantee invocation.
• The balance exposure not covered by the above concession will continue to attract risk weights in accordance with existing RBI capital adequacy guidelines.
The amendment has come into force from June 16, 2026.
