The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), on June 19, 2026, issued an Exposure Draft proposing amendments to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Insurance Surveyors and Loss Assessors) Regulations, 2015 to align the regulatory framework with the Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Act, 2025.
The proposed amendments replace the existing three-year licence regime with a perpetual registration framework for Surveyors and Loss Assessors (SLAs), subject to payment of an annual fee. Key changes include the grant of registration instead of licences, transition provisions for existing licence holders, introduction of annual fee requirements, revised registration certificate formats, provisions for suspension and cancellation of registration for non-payment of annual fees, and removal of certain procedural requirements to reduce compliance burdens.
The proposals are intended to promote ease of doing business, simplify regulatory processes, reduce compliance costs, and improve operational efficiency within the insurance surveyor ecosystem. IRDAI has invited comments from insurers, surveyors, professional bodies, policyholders, and other stakeholders on the exposure draft by July 10, 2026.
