The National Stock Exchange (NSE) on June 22, 2026, notified regarding the Collaboration with Bharat Metal Exchange for the development of Non-Ferrous Metal Derivatives Market.
The following has been stated:
• It has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Metal Exchange Ltd. (BME) to promote the development, awareness, and adoption of non-ferrous metal derivatives in India. The partnership combines NSE’s derivatives market infrastructure with BME’s extensive expertise and industry network in the non-ferrous metals sector, with the objective of strengthening market participation and enhancing price risk management practices.
• Under the collaboration, the two organizations will work jointly to develop new products in the non-ferrous metals segment and increase awareness of exchange-traded derivatives as effective tools for managing price volatility. The initiative is particularly significant as India is a major consumer of industrial metals such as copper, aluminium, zinc, lead, and nickel, and growing demand from manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, and electric mobility sectors has increased the need for efficient hedging mechanisms.
• The partnership will facilitate engagement with producers, consumers, processors, traders, importers, exporters, industry associations, and financial market participants to encourage wider adoption of exchange-based risk management solutions. NSE and BME will also undertake joint industry outreach programmes to promote awareness of non-ferrous metal derivatives and their role in effective price risk management.
• The collaboration reflects the shared commitment of NSE and BME to deepen India's commodity derivatives market, improve transparency and efficiency in price discovery, and provide stakeholders across the non-ferrous metals value chain with robust tools to manage commodity price risks.
