Labour ComplianceThe Department of Economics and Statistics, Kerala on June 20, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Industrial Workers for the Month of May 2026.

The following has been stated namely: -

• The Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Industrial Workers for May 2026 have been published by the Director of Economics & Statistics, Kerala. 

• These Cost of Living Index numbers are applicable to employees covered under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 for calculating Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) and wage revisions. 

• Most centres recorded an increase in CPI from April 2026 to May 2026, indicating a rise in the cost of living across Kerala. 

• Highest and Lowest May 2026 Indices (Base 1998–99 = 100): 

o Highest: Kottayam (480), Kasargod (478), and Pathanamthitta (471). 

o Lowest: Thrissur (421) and Wayanad (421). 

• Ernakulam’s CPI increased from 428 in April 2026 to 432 in May 2026 (Base 1998–99 = 100), reflecting a moderate rise in living costs in the district.
