The Ministry of Communications, on June 23, 2026, notified the Telecommunications (Authorisation for Provision of Miscellaneous Telecommunication Services) Rules, 2026.
The following has been stated:-
•The Telecommunications (Authorisation for Provision of Miscellaneous Telecommunication Services) Rules, 2026 establish the framework for granting authorisations to provide services such as Public Mobile Radio Trunking, Enterprise Communication, Machine-to-Machine (M2M), PM-WANI, In-Flight and Maritime Connectivity, and Aeronautical Data Communication Services.
•Eligible entities, primarily companies complying with FDI norms and having no pending dues, can apply through the designated portal along with prescribed fees and certifications.
•The Central Government may issue a Letter of Intent, require payment of entry fees and guarantees, and thereafter grant non-exclusive authorisations for up to 20 years.
•Authorised entities must continuously meet eligibility conditions, comply with reporting and disclosure requirements, and notify the Government of significant changes in ownership, control, or insolvency proceedings.
•Authorisations may be transferred only with prior Government approval in cases such as mergers or acquisitions.
•The rules also provide for renewal of authorisations, subject to application timelines, applicable fees, and compliance with prevailing laws.
They shall come into force on June 23, 2026.
