The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) on May 18, 2026, issued Guidelines on Regulation and Use of Cosmetics under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
The following has been stated:-
•Cosmetics are regulated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Cosmetics Rules, 2020, and are intended only for cleansing, beautifying, enhancing attractiveness, or altering appearance.
•Injectable products do not qualify as cosmetics, and cosmetics cannot be administered through injections or used for medical treatment.
•Manufacturers must comply with restrictions on prohibited ingredients and avoid false or misleading claims on labels.
•Any use of prohibited ingredients, misleading Labeling, therapeutic claims, or injection-based application constitutes a violation of the applicable laws and rules.
