The Government of Rajasthan, on June 20, 2026, issued the Draft Rajasthan Legal Metrology (Enforcement) (Draft Amendment) Rules, 2026, further to amend the Rajasthan Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011.
The following has been stated:-
•The draft amendment proposes replacing the licensing regime for manufacturers, repairers, and dealers of weights and measures with a registration-based system supported by self-declarations.
•Existing licences will be deemed as registration certificates, and registrations will remain valid unless suspended, cancelled, or surrendered.
•The amendment introduces the definition of “Government Approved Test Centre” and permits such centres to undertake verification, re-verification, and stamping of weights and measures.
•Registration certificates will be issued online without prior inspection, and repairers will be required to furnish a security deposit.
•The rules also revise procedures for suspension and cancellation of registration certificates and require their display at business premises.
•Additionally, verification and stamping fees are proposed to be linked to the price of the weight or measure, subject to prescribed minimum and maximum limits.
