The Government of Maharashtra, on June 16, 2026, notified the Maharashtra Employees’ Compensation Rules, 2026.
The following has been stated:-
•The Maharashtra Employees’ Compensation Rules, 2026, notified under the Code on Social Security, 2020, provide procedures for reporting workplace accidents, payment of compensation, and claim settlement.
•Employers must report fatal accidents in the prescribed form and deposit at least ₹20,000 towards funeral expenses in cases of employee death.
•The rules prescribe procedures for review of compensation payments, maintenance of notice books in hazardous establishments, and medical examinations of injured employees.
•Detailed mechanisms have been laid down for recording compensation agreements, transfer of records and funds between competent authorities, and handling compensation claims.
•Further, compensation claim applications should, as far as possible, be disposed of within six months, with provisions relating to costs and certified copies of records.
They shall come into force on June 16, 2026.
