Commercial ComplianceThe Department of Consumer Affairs, Food & Civil Supplies, Andhra Pradesh, on June 23, 2026, issued draft amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011.

The following has been stated:-

•The amendments introduce official definitions for "Low-Risk Weight or Measure," "Self-Certification," and "Third-Party Certification" to establish an updated regulatory framework. 

•Users of designated low-risk equipment are permitted to use an online portal to submit electronic compliance declarations, exempting them from traditional re-verification. 

•To qualify for this digital system, all instruments must first pass a mandatory initial verification conducted by the department or an approved third-party agency. 

•Users are required to apply and pay the prescribed fee online within thirty days prior to the expiration of their current certificate validity. 

•Once approved, the generated "Certificate-cum-Declaration" must be downloaded and displayed conspicuously within the business premises. 

•Finally, the update introduces Schedule VIII-A for the official certificate format, Schedule IX-A to specify eligible low-risk devices, and updated fee schedules for specialized meters.

Any objection or suggestion may be submitted within 15 days.
