The Labour Department, Government of Rajasthan on June 19, 2026, notified regarding the exemption for Shops and Commercial Establishments from Weekly Closing and Opening-Hour Restrictions.
The following has been stated:
• It has exempted shops and commercial establishments registered under the Rajasthan Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, from the provisions relating to weekly closing days and prescribed opening and closing hours, with immediate effect, superseding the earlier notification dated April 15, 2024.
• The exemption is subject to several conditions, including the grant of one paid weekly holiday to every employee on a rotational basis, a maximum of 10 working hours per day and 48 hours per week, and payment of overtime wages as per applicable laws.
• Employers are required to issue appointment letters to all employees and submit copies to the concerned Labour Inspector.
• Employees will continue to enjoy all other statutory benefits under the Act.
• The exemption remains valid only if all prescribed conditions and government directions are complied with; any violation will result in automatic withdrawal of the exemption and may attract legal action under the Act and other applicable laws.
