The Government of Nagaland on June 19, 2026, issued the Draft Nagaland Code on Industrial Relations Rules, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The draft rules propose a detailed framework for trade unions, collective bargaining, standing orders, and industrial dispute resolution in the State.
• Key provisions include a minimum annual trade union subscription of ₹100, mandatory annual audits and filing of annual returns, recognition of a sole negotiating union with at least 30% worker membership, and verification of unions through secret ballot.
• The draft also prescribes procedures for registration and cancellation of trade unions, regulates the use of union funds, provides facilities to recognized unions, enables voluntary arbitration of industrial disputes, and establishes a State Industrial Tribunal at Dimapur with fixed tenure and remuneration for its members.
• The rules aim to strengthen worker representation, improve transparency in trade union functioning and streamline industrial dispute resolution mechanisms.
• Comments/Suggestions are invited till August 03, 2026.
