The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) on June 29, 2026, notified regarding the launch of the Drug Registry to Standardize Medicine Information across India's Digital Healthcare Ecosystem.
The following has been stated:
• The Ministry has launched the Drug Registry under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) as a unified national platform to standardize medicine-related information and improve interoperability across India's healthcare ecosystem. Developed in collaboration with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and the National Resource Centre for EHR Standards (NRCeS), the registry serves as a single source of truth for drug data by assigning standardized codes to generic medicines, branded drugs and substances, while leveraging international standards such as SNOMED CT.
• The registry currently contains over 123,000 branded drugs, 10,000 generic drugs, and 29,000 substances, enabling users to search for medicines by generic name, brand name, substance, or manufacturer. It is designed to integrate seamlessly with Hospital Management Information Systems (HMIS), e-prescription platforms, doctor-facing applications and other ABDM-compliant digital health solutions through open APIs, thereby enhancing data accuracy, transparency, interoperability, clinical decision-making, e-prescriptions, supply chain management and continuity of care across the country's digital healthcare infrastructure.
